Lelei LeLaulu
Development Entrepreneur

A development entrepreneur lurking at the intersections of responsible tourism, renewable energy and community development, Lelei LeLaulu helped launch the Mundo Maya Sustainable Tourism Project with the Inter-American Development Bank and National Geographic to ease the Maya out of poverty. Working with students of the Maya, like the storied Dr. Arthur Demarest, Lelei incorporated “ethical archeology” into his wider programs to ensure sustainable tourism enabled the Maya to reconnect with their ancient heritage, which had been barred them by their colonial masters. Lelei, an advisor on business and sustainability to the International Finance Corporation of the World Bank, also introduced Coral Gardening into the hemisphere to help regenerate the ailing reefs of Central America and the Caribbean.
